Background
When considering agricultural history in America, time referenced can be anywhere from when the first European settlers first arrived all the way to current times. In regards to Colonial America, agriculture was the primary source of income for ninety percent of the population. Nearly every family had a farm, whether it be for personal or production purposes. Without agriculture the colonies would not have survived and America would most likely not exist today.
"America was indebted to immigration for her settlement and prosperity. That part of America which had encouraged them most had advanced most rapidly in population, agriculture, and the arts." - James Madison
